Using the imagery and language behind American traditional tattooing and its origins in sailing, this piece combines iconic tattoo designs with original drawings to tell a story of adventures yet to come. Oak wood is punctured to receive drops of India ink under the surface, essentially tattooing the boards with pieces of the story. The boats on the front demonstrate the need for adventure and the determination to be "homewards bound". The stability of the anchor combines with the tenacity and strength of the shark as a reminder to rely on what grounds you as you travel towards the dangers of the unknown. Each tattoo acts as a reminder of morals to live by, the love left behind, and the person you want to be when you return home.
